Upon accumulating enough points and then receiving command recommendation, soldiers are promoted to Sergeant officially by an act of the Secretary of the Army. The rate at which these requirements are met, as well as the level of performance achieved by individual soldiers in completing them, corresponds to the rate at which points are accumulated. The completion of all the above led requirements allow for the accumulation of the points. The rank of Sergeant is the first in which soldiers compete against each other for the title by accumulating points.
